PETA Files Lawsuit for Monkey to Own Selfie Copyright

In 2011, a macaque took nature photographer David Slater’s camera, smiled, and took a picture. PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) is filing a lawsuit claiming the copyright to the photo belongs to…the macaque.
The U.S. Copyright Office claimed a monkey cannot hold a copyright, and a judge threw the lawsuit out. Currently, the photograph is in the public domain.
